Nobody likes that sudden blast of cold air the second they step out of the shower. That “cold shock” in bathroom changing areas is a mood-killer. To fix this, we use shortwave infrared (IR) tech. Most heaters try to warm up the air in the room, which takes forever—especially if there’s a draft. But IR is different. It sends energy straight to your skin and the surfaces around you. It’s instant. You feel the warmth in seconds, even if the air around you is still chilly. How it actually works We use specific lamps with a tungsten filament tucked inside high-purity quartz. When these things kick on, they put out radiation in a very specific range (0.7 to 1.4 microns). The magic here is that this wavelength sinks into the skin much better than the slow, lazy heat you get from a standard radiator. It’s like a direct hit of warmth. It doesn’t matter if the room is drafty or the door is open; the heat travels in a straight line from the lamp to you. Dealing with the steam Bathrooms are tough on gear. Moisture is basically the enemy. We stick with quartz glass because it can handle the wild swing from freezing to boiling without cracking. To keep things safe and long-lasting, we tuck the lamps into rugged, IP-rated housings with tempered glass shields. The shields keep the splashes and humidity away from the quartz tube, but they don’t block the heat waves. The tricky parts Now, it’s not all plug-and-play. You have to be smart about where these go. High-wattage lamps pack a punch, which creates a very intense heat zone. If you mount them too low, you’re going to overheat your guests. You’ve got to get the distance just right based on the wattage so it feels cozy, not scorching. One more thing: these units pull a lot of power the moment they start up. If you’re installing a bunch of them, make sure your electrical panel can handle that initial surge. Otherwise, you’ll be tripping breakers all day.
