But the real nightmare isn’t just a bit of water getting inside—it’s what happens when a cold drop of water hits a white-hot heating element. That temperature shock can make standard glass shatter. That’s exactly why we stick with explosion-proof quartz tubes. The science of not breaking Standard quartz is finicky. One cold splash on a hot surface and crack. To stop that, we use high-purity, heavy-wall quartz that can actually take the hit. When we say “explosion-proof,” we just mean the glass is tough enough to handle those wild temperature swings without blowing apart. We also seal these tubes with high-temp gaskets to keep the halogen gas locked inside. If that seal leaks? The filament burns out in a heartbeat. It’s a delicate balance, but it works. Staying safe in the steam The IP65 housing does the heavy lifting by keeping dust and water jets away from the electrical guts.
