
Getting the Heat Right for Husky HyPET Systems
If you’ve spent any time around high-speed PET blowing, you know that throwing more wattage at a preform isn’t the answer. It’s not about how much heat you have; it’s about where that heat actually goes. The real headache with Husky HyPET systems is penetration. When the heat just sits on the surface, you end up with scorched plastic and walls that are way too thin in some spots and too thick in others. It’s frustrating. That’s why we built our replacement lamps for the Krones S24 and Husky lines to push that infrared energy deeper into the material. The secret is in the filament. We spent a lot of time messing with the halogen gas pressure and the filament mix. Why? Because we wanted to shift the emission peak to hit the exact spot where PET actually absorbs heat. Instead of the energy bouncing off the surface, it sinks in. To make sure these things actually last, we use high-density quartz glass. These ovens are brutal—the rapid heating and cooling can make cheaper glass bow or just snap. Ours can take the beating. No fuss with the install. These are simple drop-in replacements. We matched the OEM footprint exactly because we know how annoying it is when a lamp doesn’t seat right. If there’s a gap, you get hotspots, and then the lamp burns out way too early. We also stuck with the standard connectors—usually R7s or SK15. You just plug them in. No hacking into your wiring harnesses or spending your afternoon modifying brackets. A couple of things to keep in mind. These lamps pack a punch. They’ll cut your cycle times and make your bottles look crystal clear, but they do put more pressure on your ventilation. Check your cooling blowers. If your airflow is choked up, the oven temperature will spike, and your lamps won’t live nearly as long as they should. And please,keep your reflectors clean. Even a tiny bit of carbon buildup acts like a shield, blocking the IR waves. When that happens, the temptation is to just crank up the voltage to compensate. Don’t do that. That’s how you snap a filament. Just keep the reflectors shiny, and the lamps will do the heavy lifting for you.
